Stayed at a friends' house last night and this morning one of our hosts backed out of their garage and into our Passat with their F-150. The F-150 won.

The F-151? I've never heard of that.
So, now you need to replace the whole front of the car, right?

The whole back of the car. Apparently the picture didn't upload.

Time for mandatory backup cameras.
What a bad one.

Could've been worse!

Welp. Time to take that insurance check and buy a Phaeton.

Here's my prediction:
Bumper ~ $500
Trunk ~ $500-$700
Light (if it's broken broken) ~ $150
—————————————————————
Grand Total: $1150 - $1350
Let me know if I win!
Also, that sucks that that happened, but he's got insurance, right?

I think you're low, since the trunk structure itself is pushed in a good 3" and the plastic bumper structure shattered.
They have insurance in it will be handled.

Much worse. The rear window didn't break and I'm not seeing any deformation of the roof or quarter panels.

The truck has a back up camera and the proximity sensors. As new as our Passat is (7,500 miles) the truck is even newer (3,000).

If nothing else, this incident has made me think about the usefulness of mandatory back up cameras and proximity sensors. Both devices are only as good as the driver's ability/willingness to use them. Which to me means a back up camera is no better than a mirror or walking behind the vehicle to make sure things are clear before backing up; if you're not going to do it, why bother?
